YOUNG POLAND | presented by PAFF & Alexi Lubomirski

This year the Polish American Fashion Foundation (also known as PAFF) surprised us with a new approach at celebrating Polish artists in New York.

Instead of a runway show, or pop-up shop- as seen in the past- the four woman behind the project (Ola, Kinga, Kasia, and Basia) wanted to organize a gallery featuring the works of young photographers in Poland.

Upon my arrival to the Opening Night event, I was greeted by Kasia and asked her the question we were all wondering… How did the girls manage to get Alexi Lubomirski to help curate the event??

If you are not aware- Alexi Lubomirski is a very successful fashion and celebrity photographer. He was the assistant of Mario Testino, as well as hand-picked by KeGrand to shoot for FACE magazine in the beginnings of his career. He now shoots covers for Harpers Bazaar US, Vogue, etc, and working with faces like Emilia Clarke, Kate Winslet, Karlie Kloss, Anja Rubik, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lopez, is no big deal!

Going back to the big question, how did Alexi become such a big part of the project? Kasia responded by telling me– „We simply sent him an email because we figured, it never hurts to try! … and to our surprise he responded and was very eager to help make our vision a reality. He is such a cool guy, he is okay with anything having to do with promoting young artists.”

And Kasia was right, he really is a cool and down to Earth guy! I had the pleasure of having a short conversation with him. I approached him with ease–even though every woman in the room couldn’t help but state „He’s so handsome!” I told him that I’m studying Fashion Design, and to my surprise he said he „had started out studying fashion design as well and that his professor’s thought his quirky work was wonderful, and his mens suits reminded them of Jean Paul Gaultier… but fashion design wasn’t where he wanted to be.” Clearly– photography is his passion!!
